I have had a few people ask me what my content standards are, so I thought I would publish a page dedicated to that so you know where I stand and what I mean when I describe what the content is.
I don't get too into detail in my content descriptions because I hate spoilers, I am the person that just wants to know if it's good or bad, and to what extent.
Swearing:
Light swearing - S*** D*** H*** A** listed in an okay amount, from a literal few to occasional.
Medium Swearing - consists of the same words above and includes the B**** word, but in range from more than occasional to often.
Heavy Swearing - I usually close the book when it gets to this point. I'm okay with some profanity, but it really gets to a point where I've had enough.
F-words - I have a limit of 3 unless the content is iffy, then I stop sooner. I will disclose if there are any.
Blasphemy (Taking of God, or Jesus's name in vain) - I do not tolerate the taking of Jesus's name in vain at all. I will not finish the book if it does it more than once!
As for God, I know that that one is a common one for people to use in everyday things, and I have somehow trained my brain long ago to automatically sub words instead (oh my [goodness], Good [golly], for [heavens] sake....) It's not that I don't notice it, and I will close the book if it is in extreme excess, but that one is unavoidable in almost every book around unless you read religious fiction or picture books. I won't normally disclose this one unless it becomes too much.
Romance - I enjoy a steamy kiss.... however, there is a big difference between a steamy kiss, and a steamy bedroom (or something that should take place in a bedroom).
Light romance or kissing - is pretty much self explanatory. I will tolerate a bit of petting, and the general allusion of sex, If it starts to get any more than that, or if the descriptions get a little more descriptive than wandering hands I will close the book and not finish it. I do not tolerate 'adult' romance or descriptions of body parts. Love is much more than sex.
Drugs/alcohol- Underage drinking is a part of life- unfortunately. I tend to overlook this one unless there are parents in the story and if the parents are okay with it. I won't disclose this one unless the book sheds an encouraging light on it.
I would let my children read this, or not - As a parent I am careful about what I expose my daughters to. I wouldn't knowingly want to expose them to things that I do not approve of. I was raised in a Christian home and I am raising my daughters the same way. If I say that I would let my children read this, then it has to be fairly clean.
